Kigosi National Park 

Kigosi is relatively unheard of when it comes to commercial tourism. It’s one of those uncharted destinations that are only really known for its sustainable tourism. The reserve has now shifted its focus to tourism and offers private guided photographic safaris in one of Tanzania’s most untapped regions.

Visitors will need permits to access the reserve—and getting there is an expedition alone. Safari-goers who are privy to the wonders of Kigosi charter private planes to the area.

Kigosi National Park – 3 days / 2 nights

Tanzania’s private and protected Kigosi Game Reserve encompasses 8,265 square kilometers of Miombo woodland dotted with open plains and fascinating rocky outcrops. The Moyowosi River divides Kigosi from its neighbor, the Moyowosi Game Reserve. This is one of the largest protected sectors in East Africa for the sitatunga. The waterlogged regions also provide the perfect habitat for waterbuck, hippo, and crocodiles.

There are no accommodation options within the reserve. Camping is recommended, but visitors would need permission to camp in the area. There are 4WD routes and trails through the reserve, which make for an exciting self-drive experience. Visitors can stay in typical safari lodges and tented accommodation on the outskirts of the park, or in basic A-frame tents in the adjoining Moyowosi Game Reserve.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Tabora town – through Moyowosi Game Reserve – Kigosi National Park

Morning after breakfast from your hotel / lodge in Tabora, you will drive approximately 5 hours to get to the Moyowosi Game Reserve through to Kigosi National Park. 

 

You can fly from Dar es Salaam to Tabora regions Airport and drive from Tabora to Kigosi National park. 

 

During your game drive expect to see Topi, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, sitatunga, warthog, baboon, zebra, sable, roan, eland, bushbuck, oribi, common and Bohor reedbuck, hyena, hippo, and Defassa waterbuck.

 

You will retire your day for dinner and overnight accommodation as per arrangements; see optional camping accommodation below (all camping are located on the Moyowosi side);

DAY 2: Full day Game drive and activities in Kigosi National Park

Early Morning after breakfast, with an armed Ranger, you will go for a walking game safari experience in Kigosi National Park. Depending on your interest, you can go from a 4 to 5 hours walking safari or 2 to 3 hour walking game safari. 

You will have an afternoon at leisure or go for a cultural tour around to explore the Moyowosi Game reserve woodlands. 

You will have dinner and overnight accommodation stay at your camps as per arrangements. See below options;
