Spice Farm & Jozani – Chwaka Bay National Park Tour
The Spice Tour is one of the most popular excursions in Zanzibar, the Spice Island. Zanzibar was one of the world’s leading producers of spices such as clove, nutmeg and cinnamon. Tour takes you to an organic farm with a wide variety of plants around the year. You don’t just see, you also touch, smell and taste.
Once on the Prison Island, you have the opportunity to feed and pet the tortoises, if you have time you may also like to take a stroll through the forested interior where you will see a wide variety of birds, colorful peacocks, bats, and beautiful butterflies. Keep your eyes peeled too for the shy and elusive Duikers – an unusual tiny antelope species.
The Jozani forest, a natural reserve, lies 35 km South East from Zanzibar City between Chwaka Bay and Uzi Bay.
The only remaining natural forest of Unguja covers an area of 10 square km. The forest, with trees older than 100 years, is the sanctuary for some very interesting animals, including the Red Colobus monkey, the small Zanzibar leopard, blue monkey, chameleon, mongoose, bush baby, tree hyrax, bush pig, civet, and two small antelope species found only on Zanzibar, Zanzibar duiker and sunni.
